About
The name of the incorporated association is “THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY OF VICTORIA INCORPORATED”.
2. Purposes
​
The purposes of the association are—
​
a) Promote unity, equal opportunity and friendship among all persons of Nigerian heritage or links without discrimination by reason of circumstances of birth, race, age, cultural heritage, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender religion or political opinion;
​
b) Promote unity between all persons of Nigerian heritage or links; persons with culturally and linguistically diverse heritage or links; and Australians to encourage goodwill and understanding;
​
c) To assist individual members as a society if required, subject to the welfare programme, described in Operational Protocols, as amended and updated from time to time.
​
d) Encourage members to actively participate and contribute to nation building in
Australia and Nigeria;
​
e) Foster a good relationship and understanding between the Nigerian and Australian governments;
​
f) Promote and preserve Nigerian cultural arts and heritage;
​
g) Assist in providing and disseminating useful information on Nigeria for the purpose of educating and enlightening the Australian Public and also providing useful information about Australia to Nigerians for the same purpose;
​
h) Protect, improve and uphold the good name of Nigeria by being good and law-abiding residents of Victoria and Australia;
​
i) To promote an awareness and knowledge of the Nigerian culture among all persons of Nigerian heritage or links especially youths, and to engender respect and friendship among members;
​
j) To work in cooperation with national and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities and organizations in Victoria and Australia whose aims and interests are in accordance with our rules;
​
k) Strive to be actively involved with Nigerian associations in other states and territories, CALD communities and multicultural organisations / bodies to promote the Nigerian Society of Victoria Incorporated;
​
l) To eschew and denounce corruption and discrimination including bigotry, racism and nepotism; and
m) Explore and utilize all available opportunities that would enable the Society achieve its purposes.
